The phone features 6.6-inch Full HD display, 64MP triple rearview camera Setup, 5G, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, USB Type C port, 3.5mm headphone jack, Dolby Atmos audio and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. The phone has a 5,000 mAh battery and supports 15W fast charging. It runs Samsung’s One UI based on Android 11 and it is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 700 chip. On paper, This phone looks similar to the Galaxy A22 5G.  So let’s check you detailed features of the smartphone.

Galaxy F42 design & Build:

starting with the design, the Galaxy F42 does look Quite different from your typical A-Series or M-Series phone from Samsung. As It has got a plastic body with plastic frames and hence is not that heavy. Although it’s quite thick at nine millimetres, Its surface is matte, and it does feel good and refreshing. Regardless. The Black variant attracts some fingerprints and smudges, Whereas the blue variant and doesn’t. This phone has got a dedicated micro-sd card slot which supports up to 1TB & two nano sim slots. In the back it features a 64MP triple camera with night mode & The front panel water drop design features an 8-megapixel sensor for selfies and video calls.

This body built feels relatively uneasy on the hands but This huge phone feels light, As it weighs around 203g & it is around 9mm Thick.

On the Right side, it has got a volume & power button with a fingerprint sensor, It is placed on the side for easy access.

At the bottom it has got a type C port, 3.5mm headphone Jack & bottom-firing speakers.

Samsung F42’s Display:

The 6.6-inch TFT Technology display supports Full HD+ resolution (1080×2408 pixels) with 16M colour depth & 400 PPI density, which supports 90Hz Refresh rate, This waterdrop notch that allows you to view the selfie camera up close with an Infinity V notch which is disappointing when you compare to the new Galaxy A52s and the Galaxy M52. And it has got big bezels, especially on the bottom chain, which contributes to a bigger form factor.
Now, even though an AMOLED display is common on Samsung’s similar priced phones,

We are really surprised to see that Samsung settled with a TFT LCD panel with this phone.

This Panel is obviously going to be around, this phone delivers fairly bright colours. Good touch response. And hence, Our experience with this display so far has been satisfactory, which is also, thanks to the smooth 90 hurts refresh rate.

Galaxy F42 Performance:

Samsung Galaxy F42 5G – The first smartphone from the new Galaxy F series from Samsung that brings many performance upgrades powered by the MediaTek DIMENSITY 700 5G PROCESSOR and has 12 5G bands. – MTK D700 performance as expected,
It has handled everyday tasks easily, and its performance potential is sufficient enough for light to medium usage, including surfing social media, responding to emails and watching videos. Still, the Dimensity 700 is not the best performance chipset at this price range, as you can easily get more powerful phones Like the cocoa X3 Pro, Iqoo Z5 and even Samsung’s Own Galaxy M52,  We tested some demanding games such as PubG and Call of Duty mobile, Both of which max out at medium Graphics settings, We noticed some frame drops are far too common on the Galaxy f42 5G. As a result, You’ve got to dial down the graphic settings too low for higher FPS and stable gaming performance.

The highlighting feature is 5G, Samsung is heavily promoting Galaxy F42 which support 5G which does make it a reliable option if you’re looking for a 5G phone. But still, its is essentially useless at this moment, especially in India, Where 5G deployment still has a long way to go.

This Phone ships with One UI Core 3.1 – Based on Android 11 which is better Optimized for this 90Hz screen, the UI is fast and easy to use. But it comes with preinstalled bloatware, which can be uninstalled. This one has Widevine L1 support, so there should be no problems streaming FHD content via the OTT app.

F42’s camera:

As far as the cameras are concerned, the Samsung Galaxy F42 5G on the REAR packs a triple CAMERA SETUP featuring a 64-megapixel primary camera; a 5-megapixel camera, and a 2-megapixel camera. Its triple REAR CAMERAS come inside a square-shaped module that also houses the LED flash. Likewise, selfies are handled by an 8-megapixel shooter which is placed in V notch in the front.

The entire back CAMERA setup comes with FEATURES like Autofocus, LED Flash, ISO Control, Exposure Compensation, HDR mode, Continuous Shooting, Face Detection, Digital Zoom and Touch to Focus

We tested its camera quality & its 64-megapixel lens performance is decent & details to the dynamic range to exposure Everything seems off on the Galaxy of 42. It has better skin tone background, blur and sharpness. The Galaxy f42 also comes with a 5-megapixel Ultra wide-angle lens, whose quality is not that great but images from Ultra wide-angle sensor have a usable and even wider field of view Coming to the front, the Galaxy f42 even struggles to offer Good selfies. It has a soft skin tone and fails to properly Maintain things like background exposure.

Similarly, videos can record up to 4K at 30fps, Although a 60 FPS mode is entirely missing here And across any resolution, You won’t find any kind of stabilization on this phone. And as a result, the videos are bully and shaky if you try to block or take the phone for a walk overall, although I have admired the camera quality and optimization of almost every Samsung mid-range phone in the past, The Galaxy f42 is kind of an exception. Now Only does it bring inferior camera Hardware, but I believe Samsung is offering inferior software optimization too. So we do hope they send an update to fix this ASAP.

Battery Life & Charging Speed:

There is enough battery power inside this phone to last you through the day. 5000mAh is the best choice for social media, web browsing, a few hours of gaming and streaming music. Unfortunately, Samsung is not only offering a slower 15-watt charger inside the box, but this phone does not support 25 watts Charging all Together, Even the cheaper phones & competition is providing fast charger. So we really don’t understand why this compromise.

Security features & Sensors & Connectivity:

Unlocking the phone with a fast side-mounted fingerprint reader, Placed into the power button which is quite fast and accurate & the phone can also be unlocked by face unlock feature.

The phone’s sensors include the Accelerometer, Fingerprint Sensor, Gyro Sensor, Geomagnetic Sensor, Light Sensor & Proximity Sensor.

Talking about the phone Connectivity, it has got Bluetooth v5.0, Dual-band Wi-Fi (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac 2.4G+5GHz, VHT80) & a Blazing Fast 5G with 11 band support which makes it future-ready. Sadly this phone doesn’t have NFC connectivity.

Verdict:

The Galaxy F42 5G is the first 5G smartphone in the F Series, featuring a 64MP triple camera with night mode, a 6.6-inch FHD+ display with a refresh rate of 90 Hz and compatibility with 12 different 5G bands.

The Samsung Galaxy F42 5G runs with OneUI (v3.1) based on Android 11 and has 128 GB of built-in memory, which can be expanded to up to 1,000 GB via a microSD card. So this is the phone for someone who is looking for a big screen with a better battery & 5G connectivity in a Samsung brand phone.

Like most mid-range Factory phones. This one’s not the best value for either. And Samsung has compromised on multiple factors with the Galaxy F42,  Just to deliver 5G Hence, at a similar price range.
You can get Samsung’s own Galaxy M42, or if you’re absolutely set on getting a phone with 5G, You could pay a little bit more and get the Galaxy M52 or the Realme 7 Max, which frequently gets a price cut, or even the new IQOO Z5 instead.
